LE MARS, Iowa -- The No. 24 Bellevue University men's golf team moved up to ninth place after a 14-over, 298 final round at the Northwest Iowa National Invite being played at the 6,563-yard, par 71 Willow Creek Golf Course.
Bellevue finished the three-round event at 39-over as a team with a score of 891, tied with Bethany College for ninth place.
No. 18 Oklahoma City University held off a furious charge from No. 3 Texas Wesleyan University to claim the team title by just two strokes. The Rams turned in their best team round of the tournament with a 7-under 275 while the Stars fired a team worst 296 (+12).
Friends' Trinton Noble, who began the day a stroke up, shot a 1-over 72 as he held onto a lead over a trio of golfers to win the individual title by two strokes.
Thomas Gatlin shot a team third round-best of 2-over 73 as he finished in a tie for 10th place at 3-over for the tournament. Gatlin birdied four holes on the day, including thee on an even-par back nine, along with nine pars.
Cayden Wynne shot 5-over on the day to finish in a tie for 30th at 9-over. He finished his round strong with two of his three birdies over the final six holes.
Dylan Rodgers fired a 3-under back nine on his way to a 4-over (75) day, finishing 34th in the 75-golfer field at 10-over. All three of his birdies came on the back nine.
Ludwig Klingspor shot his best round of the event with a 3-over 74 on Tuesday. His 1-under back nine was highlighted by three-straight birdies on No. 14, 15, and 16 as he improved his standing for a 67th place finish at 20-over.
Kyle Dale shot 10-over on the day, including sinking a pair of birdies in a 1-over back nine. He finished tied for 72nd at 24-over.
Bellevue next competes at the NSAA Championships first and second rounds Sunday-Monday, Sept. 22-23 at Crossroads Golf Club in Carrington, N.D.
