
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- Fresh off his outstanding performance at the NAIA National Championships, freshman Sam Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) has earned third-team All-American honors in an announcement made today by the NAIA.
Johnson was the lone Bruin golfer to make the individual cut at the NAIA National Championships, finishing in 29th place with a 14-over par total of 302 in the 72-hole event.
He garnered first-team all-NSAA honors this season after placing third at the NSAA Championships, finishing at 7-over par.
Johnson competed in 13 tournaments and 29.5 rounds and posted a team-best scoring average of 73.9. He earned four top-five and seven top-10 finishes. Johnson shot a season-best 68 (-4) at the Flyer Intercollegiate (Oct. 2-3), tying for third with a 36-hole best of 141 (-3).
He also finished third at the TPC San Antonio (Feb. 19-20). Johnson carded a 54-hole best score of 214 (+1) twice at the U.C. Ferguson Classic (Aug. 28-29) and the Northwest Iowa National Invitational (Sept. 18-19).
Johnson was named NSAA Golfer of the Week on two occasions (Oct. 4, Oct. 25).
Johnson helped the Bruins win their fifth-straight NSAA Championship this season, advancing to the NAIA National Championships for the 11th time in school history.
