Johnson earns NSAA Golfer of the Week honors

MADISON, S.D. -- For the first time in his Bruin career, freshman Sam Johnson has been named the North Star Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Flyer Intercollegiate played earlier this week in Lemont, Ill.

Bellevue was the lone NAIA team competing in the Flyer Intercollegiate, hosted by Lewis University at the 6,889-yard, par-72 Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. The tournament consisted of nine NCAA Division II teams and one NCAA Division III team, along with Bellevue, and the host school's B squad.

Johnson was one of just four golfers in the 72-player field to finish under par. He ended the tournament at 3-under par, good for a tie for third place. Johnson recorded an eagle in each of the two rounds while also registering six birdies overall.

The Bruins will be back in action this Friday-Saturday, Oct. 6-7, when they travel to Axtel, Neb., to compete in the Nebraska Intercollegiate at Awarii Dunes.
