Johnson tied, BU leads at Flyer Intercollegiate

LEMONT, Ill. -- Freshman Sam Johnson sits tied atop the clubhouse leaderboard, and the Bellevue University men's golf team is in first overall after the first round of play at the Flyer Intercollegiate.

The tournament, being played at Course #2 at the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club – Ravines is being hosted by Lewis University and is set up at a 6,889-yard, par 72 course.

Sam Johnson began on No. 15 where he parred the first four holes before eagling hole No. 1. Three more birdies and a bogey on the front nine saw him at 4-under through 13 holes. He birdied No. 10 before bogeying No. 13 and closing out the round with a par on the par three 14th hole.

Tied with Johnson at 4-under is Davenport University's Brandon Bodis. Bodis' teammate Aiden Deng is on stroke back in third, with Drury University's Hunter Jowers in fourth at 2-under.

Three Bruins - Totte Uhlan, Hugo Brandt, and Cayden Wynne - are among six golfers tied for fifth at even par.

Uhlan bogeyed No. 13, his first hole, and No. 8, off-setting his birdies on No.'s 15 and 18 to card an even-par 72.

Wynne began on No. 14 and parred his first four holes before a bogey on No. 18. He also bogeyed No. 6 before birdieing three of his final seven holes with one bogey to shoot par for the afternoon.

Brandt, beginning on No. 13, birdied No.'s 17 and 10  while turning in bogeys on No. 15 and No. 11 to shoot a 72 as well.

Dylan Rodgers, Bellevue's fifth golfer, produced seven bogeys in a 7-over round of 79.

Golfing as an individual, Nathan Ishaya shot 12-over on the day, highlighted by a birdie on No. 3.

Bellevue shot 4-under as a team for a 284 score on the day and is two strokes ahead of second-place Davenport.

Play resumes tomorrow with second-round action beginning at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
