Bruins earn 6-2 non-conference win over Hastings

OMAHA, Neb. -- Behind a dominant pitching performance from Gavin Wuschke and a strong offensive showing by Steven Elsner, the Bellevue University baseball team secured a 6-2 non-conference victory over Hastings College Wednesday afternoon at Brown Park.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 3-6 on the season, earning its second victory over the Broncos this season. Hastings fell to 1-8 overall.

Game Recap

The Bruins opened the scoring in the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Elsner and a run-scoring infield single from Jordan Brandenburg.

Wuschke was in complete control on the mound, retiring 12 consecutive batters before Hastings broke through in the sixth with an infield single and a double. Albertson's deep sacrifice fly trimmed Bellevue's lead to 2-1.

The Bruins quickly responded in the bottom half of the sixth as CJ Townsend lined an RBI single to center, scoring Lind to push the lead to 3-1.

Bellevue broke the game open in the seventh when Elsner launched a two-run homer to right field, extending the advantage to 5-1.

Lind added an exclamation point in the eighth, leading off with a solo blast to left-center, making it a 6-1 game.

Merritt's sacrifice fly in the ninth provided Hastings with its final run, making the final 6-2.
