Bruins polish off four-game sweep of Vikings

OMAHA, Neb. -- Mathieu Sirois launched three home runs and Bruin pitching racked up 27 strikeouts in the No. 9-ranked Bellevue University baseball team's double-header sweep of Valley City State University on Saturday afternoon.

Bellevue took the opener by a score of 5-3 before a 21-0 triumph in the nightcap.

The wins wrapped up a four-game conference sweep for the Bruins who push their overall winning streak to 14 games, improving to 21-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Game One: BU 5, VCSU 3

Easton Brinton (3-1) turned in the best start of his Bruin career. Across seven innings of two-hit ball the right-hander limited Valley City to just a run while punching out a career-best 12.

Mathieu Sirois put the Bruins on the board in the top of the second with an estimated 460-foot blast to center, his third home run of the season and first of three on the day.

Kaden Rozdeba dealt Brinton his lone blemish with a two-out double down the line in the home half of the second but Brinton evaded further damage by inducing a comebacker on the next batter to keep BU in front 2-1 after two innings.

Nick Grade delivered a swinging bunt that resulted in an infield single with the bases loaded in the third to get that run back before Tradd Richardson singled home Logan Grant for a 4-1 advantage.

Brendan Luther tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when his fielder's choice chased home Takumi Maeno.

Teron Williams worked the final two innings to preserve the victory.

Rozdeba launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead in half but Williams got Judson Seliskar to ground out to end the game one batter later.

Brooks Brown (0-2) took the loss for the Vikings allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of work. A pair of VCSU relievers held Bellevue to just one run on two hits the rest of the way.

Game Two: BU 21, VCSU 0

Bellevue scored multiple runs in each of the first six innings. Mathieu Sirois went 4-for-4, homering twice (4, 5), with five runs scored and seven RBI.

Anthony Lind (2) and Nick Grade (7) also homered in the victory.

Jake Lacey joined Sirois with a 4-for-4 effort at the dish, hitting a double and scoring a pair of runs. Lind was 3-for-3 with four RBI and Grade finished 2-for 3 with three runs driven in.

Dustin Schorie (3-0) struck out nine in five innings of one-hit ball. Elijah Boersen and Jose Villagomez each worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Dustin Mertz slapped a ball back through the box off Schorie with two outs in the first for a single, the Vikings' lone hit of the game.

Riley Resnick (0-5) lasted just two innings and surrendered nine runs on seven hits in the loss.
