BU battles through adversity, falls to Comets in five sets

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Despite 25 kills from freshman Eve Fountain, the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team battled through injuries to two key players before falling to Mayville State University, 3-2 (27-25, 24-26, 25-15, 13-25, 9-15) Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.  

With the loss, the Bruins fell to 13-4 on the season and 11-2 in the NSAA. MSU improved to 21-9 overall and 10-3 in league play. 

Fountain recorded her team-leading eighth double-double of the season by adding 15 digs in the loss. 

Sierra Athen also registered a double-double with 14 kills and a career-high 32 digs. 

Olivia Galas nearly notched a triple-double with 53 assists, nine kills, and nine digs while directing the BU offense to a .159 hitting percentage. 

The Bruins tallied a season-high 102 digs with freshman Anna Koehler adding 20 digs on the night. 

Victoria Johnson (16) and Elora Passa (15) combined for 31 kills to pace the Comet offense.  

Mason Hart led all players with 38 digs.  

The Bruins will complete the regular season on Saturday (March 27) with a 1:00 p.m. match at Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D.
