Lages lands first Player of the Week Award

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Bellevue University senior Marilia Lages (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was named the first Association of Independent Institutions' Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the 2020-21 season, as announced by the A.I.I. office on Monday morning.

Lages has been instrumental in getting the Bruins off to their best start (3-1-0) since opening the 2014 campaign with five-straight victories.

In a season-opening win over Doane University on Sept. 5, Lages scored the eventual game-winning goal and tallied a pair of assists as BU began the year with a 5-0 victory. She followed up that performance by scoring the game's lone goal in overtime to deliver Bellevue a 1-0 win at Concordia University on Sept. 9.

In subsequent games at Columbia College and Tabor College, Lages continued to create chances and make deep runs for the Bellevue attack.

She shares the team lead with two goals and her two assists are tops on the club while her two game-winning goals lead the entire NAIA.

Bellevue is next scheduled to play on Monday, Sept. 28 when they host Central Christian College at 5 p.m. from Papillion Landing.
