Maahs' strike rescues draw for Bruins at CSM

OMAHA, Neb. -- Emah Maahs scored in the 72nd minute to erase a one-goal deficit and help the Bellevue University women's soccer team pick up a 1-1 draw against College of Saint Mary on Wednesday evening at Heritage Park.

Records:

Bellevue: 4-4-2
College of Saint Mary: 3-3-1

Recap: Bellevue 1, College of Saint Mary 1

College of Saint Mary struck first in the 20th minute on a goal from Elli McMeekin. Madaline Angel sent in a ball that McMeekin rose up, out a scrum, to head it into the goal for a 1-0 Flames lead.

The Flames parlayed that strike from McMeekin into a 1-0 halftime advantage. CSM out-shot Bellevue 5-4 in the period. They put just one on goal, but it went in, while the Bruins had three shots on frame.

Bellevue levelled the score in the 72nd minute. Emily Weyant saw her initial shot stopped but Emah Maahs was there to clean up with rebound for her second goal of the season.

The Bruins did the majority of the attacking in the game's second half, out-shooting CSM 11-3 in the second 45 minutes.

BU was rewarded for their efforts when Weyant earned a penalty kick with just five seconds remaining but the attempt from Lays Freitas was not converted and the game advanced to overtime.

The first overtime period saw the teams combined for eight shots, with CSM holding a 5-3 edge. Bellevue went on to hold a 3-2 edge in shots in the second overtime period.

Sabrina Staufenbiel made four of her six saves during the overtime periods to pick up the draw in goal for the Bruins.

Corryne Millet totaled 12 saves for the Flames who were out-shot 21-15 in the match.

Coach Tom White:
