BU tied for sixth after opening round of Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Led by Shanice DeGee, the Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in a three-way tie for sixth place after the opening round of play at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The 36-hole tournament is being played at the par-70, 5,843-yard Lincoln Park Golf Club (East Course).

Host Oklahoma City University and Iowa Western Community College are tied for the team lead in the 18-team field as both posted team scores of 20-over 300. 

The Bruins, who are 12 strokes back after recording a team total of 312, are tied with the University of Texas at Dallas and William Penn University for sixth place. 

DeGee was the top Bruin golfer on the day, finishing with a 7-over 77. She had one birdie and 11 pars on the day and is currently tied for 20th place in the 98-player field. 

Wayland Baptist's Chante Van Zyl and Baker's Mia Tovkach are tied for the lead in the individual standings at 1-over par.  

Tylah Saifoloi and Allison Temple both fired 8-over 78's and are tied for 28th place. Saifoloi had 10 pars in her round, while Temple's round was highlighted by three birdies. 

Dominika Gradecka carded a 9-over 79 and is in a tie for 36th place. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 480-yard 15th hole, and a birdie on the par-5, 508-yard fourth hole. 

Tuesday's final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
