BU moves up to 10th at NAIA Fall Preview

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Four of five Bruins lowered their scores on Tuesday to help the Bellevue University women's golf team move up one spot to earn a 10th-place finish at the NAIA Championship Fall Preview.

The Course:

The NAIA Fall Preview was played at the 6,050-yard, Par 72 Lincoln Park Golf Club from the West Course.

The Field:

Of the 11 NAIA schools that competed, eight are ranked in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, including three in the top five; No. 2 SCAD Savannah, No. 3 Dalton State, and No. 5 William Carey. Also ranked are Oklahoma City (No. 7), Loyola-New Orleans (No. 8), William Penn (No. 9), Texas Wesleyan (No. 17), and USC Beaufort (No. 20).

Bellevue, Grand View, and St. Thomas (Texas) are all currently unranked; however, both Bellevue and Grand View received votes in the Preseason Poll.

Among the junior college participants Iowa Western and McLennan are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the most recent NJCAA Division I Rankings.

Team Recap:

Bellevue finished the tournament with a score of 649 (+71) in 10th place, up one spot after yesterday's first round. BU shaved 15 strokes off their first round score as the Bruins carded a 317 as a team.

SCAD Savannah (299-293—592) took home the team title after scoring a tournament-low 293 in the second round to finish with a score of 592. The Bees picked up a six-stroke victory over second place Texas Wesleyan (302-296—598).

USC Beaufort (304-298—602) came third with a score of 602 while Loyola-New Orleans (309-297—606) and Dalton State (309-297—606) tied for fourth place with scores of 606.

Individual Recap:

Four of five BU golfers improved on their first round score with Kim Moore shaving a team-best nine strokes off yesterday's total with a 76 (85-76—161).

Faustina Peve carded a BU-tournament low 75 in Tuesday's second round to finish at 12-over (156).  Madison Brooks (86-81--167) and Bri Stagge (101-94—195) trimmed five and seven strokes, respectively, from their first to second round scores.

Allison Temple (80-85—165) carded an 85 on the round to finish with a score of 165.

There was a four-way tie atop the leaderboard between a pair of Dalton State golfers, Isabel Rijos and Katie Dalton, Loyola-New Orleans' Callee Breland, and William Carey's Aleesha Smith. All four shot an even par, 144, for the tournament.

  • This was BU's third time competing at the NAIA Fall Preview (2012, 2014).
  • Bellevue's best finish at the event came when they placed fourth (of 20 teams) in 2012. The Bruins tied for six (of 16 teams) during the 2014 event.
