AXTELL, Neb. -- Led by Wendy Monfort, the Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in fifth place after the first round of the NCAA Division II-dominated UNK Invite. The 36-hole tournament is being played at the 6,236-yard, par-72 Awarri Dunes Golf Club.
The Bruins are the only NAIA squad in the 13-team field.
Missouri Western State is the team leader with a team total of 18-over par 306. Augustana is one stroke back at 307. The Bruins shot a team total of 321 on the day.
Monfort is currently tied for 8th place in the 78-player field after shooting an opening round 5-over-par 77. Ivane Helias is tied for 14th with a 6-over 78. Faustina Peva fired a 10-over 82 and is tied for 30th. Morgan Hazzard carded a 12-over 84 and is tied for 44th.
Missouri Western's Shi Qing Ong leads the tournament field with a 2-under par 70.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
