Bruins take six-stroke lead after first day at BU Fall Invite

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Paced by three golfers in the top six, the Bellevue University women's golf team has a six-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the Bellevue Fall Invite being played at the Platteview Golf Club Monday. 

Wendy Monfort and Hannah Maschong are both tied for fourth after each shot 157 in Monday's 36-hole opening day. Both players got better as the day went on with Monfort firing a 3-over 75 in the second round after carding an 82 in the opening round.

Maschong shot the tournament's best round with a 1-over 73 in the second round after recording an 84 in the first round. 

Monfort and Maschong are just one shot off the tournament lead as three players, William Penn's Elise Warne, Iowa Western's Sena Ersoy and Dodge City's Orakorn Thirayatorn are all tied for first after posting opening-day totals of 156. 

Ivane Helias is just two strokes off the lead and is tied for sixth after finishing with a 158 (77-81) two-round total. Faustina Peve rounded out the Bruins' scoring with a 167 (85-82) total, good for a tie for 13th place. 

Tomorrow's third and final round will commence with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Platteview Golf Club.
