ANKENY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University women's golf team shot an opening-round 7-over par 291 to take a commanding lead after the first day of competition at the Grand View Spring Invite at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
The Bruins lead second-place Iowa Western Community College by 19 strokes.
Natalia Soria and Wendy Monfort both fired 1-over par 72's on the day and are tied for second place in the individual standings.
Karissa Moreland is one stroke back at 2-over 73. She is tied for fifth place.
Ivane Helias recorded a 3-over 74 and is in seventh place. Maria Saavedra is tied for eighth after registering a 4-over 75.
Renee Santoyo, who competed as an individual, is tied with Soria and Monfort at second after carding an 1-over-par 72 on the day.
Dakota Wesleyan's Lauren Fitts leads the 34-player field with an even-par 71.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
