OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team picked up a sixth place finish at the Oklahoma City University Spring Invitational after shooting 23-over as a team in the third and final round.
The tournament was held at the 5,942 yard, par-72 Lincoln Park Golf Course-East Course.
Bellevue entered the day tied in fourth place but dipped two spots when Redlands Community College shot a day two best 5-over and Texas Wesleyan broke the tie finishing seven strokes ahead of the Bruins on the day.
McLennan Community College won the team title with a three-round total of 881. They were followed in the standings by Oklahoma Christian (897) and Redlands Community College (903). Oklahoma City (906) and Texas Wesleyan (914) rounded out the top five.
The Bruins' top individual finisher at the event was Ivane Helias with a 72-hole total of 228. She shot a 9-over 81 on the day and finished in 13th place overall in the 71-golfer field.
Wendy Monfort shot a team-best 2-over 74 on the day for a three round score of 235. Karissa Moreland also posted a sub-80 round, her third of the tournament, to finish at 232. She was the only Bruin to shoot under 80 in each of the three rounds.
Maria Saavedra and Natalia Soria finished the day with scores of 80 and 81, respectively. Saavedra closed the tournament with a score of 239 while Soria finished in 16th place with a 72-hole sum of 229.
Competing as an individual, Renee Santoyo carded an 80 on the day for a three-round total of 238.
After birdieing 23 holes in two rounds of play yesterday the Bruins added to their total with an additional eight birdies in today's final round.
Helias finished the tournament with 11 birdies to lead the team. Monfort paced the Bruins in the third round, recording three birdies on the day to give her seven for the tournament.
Bellevue gets a reprieve until Monday, Apr. 18 when they compete in the two-day Grand View University Spring Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.
