Bruins cruise to 79-43 victory over Presentation

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Jerrene Richardson registered 13 points and all 13 Bruins scored as the Bellevue University women's basketball team produced a 79-43 victory over Presentation College in North Star Athletic Association action Friday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

The Bruins, who scored 37 points off of PC's 27 turnovers, improved to 12-8 on the season and 3-1 in the NSAA. Presentation fell to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in league play. 

Richardson, who played just 17 minutes, was 5-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Elexis Martinez added 11 points and four rebounds in the victory.

Tone Oglesby led the Saints with 17 points and one rebound. Jada Campbell registered a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. 

The Bruins raced out to a 16-2 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest, draining three 3-pointers and forcing eight PC turnovers. After the two teams traded five-point runs, Martinez hit one-of-two free throws and Richardson nailed a 10-foot off-balance put-back to give BU a 24-7 lead after the opening 10 minutes. 

Martinez led BU with six first-quarter points, all on free throws, while the Saints committed 11 turnovers. 

Bellevue scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to extend the lead to 28 points at 35-7 with 6:26 remaining before the intermission. 

After a 3-pointer by Oglesby drew the Saints to within 22 points at 40-18 at the three-minute mark, the Bruins closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 47-18 advantage at the break.

Martinez led the Bruins in the first half with nine points and three rebounds. Jones added eight points and four steals. 

Oglesby paced the Saints in the opening half with 10 points. 

The Bruins capitalized on 17 first-half PC turnovers, scoring 24 points off of Saint miscues. 

PC used a 9-4 run to open the second half to slice the lead to 24 points (51-27) with 5:26 left in the third. The Bruins responded by closing the half on a 12-2 spurt to take a 63-29 lead heading into the final quarter. 

A 3-pointer by Richardson gave the Bruins a 42-point (77-35) edge before the Bruins cruised to the 79-43 victory. 

The Bruins will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 24 when they host Viterbo University at 5:30 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Note: Due to inclement weather, Saturday's (Jan. 18) scheduled contest with Mayville State has been postponed until Monday, Feb. 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
