OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team extended its winning streak to six games with an 8-1 victory at College of St. Mary Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the CSM Softball Field.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 18-11 on the season. The Flames fell to 5-16 overall.
The victory helped complete the series sweep over CSM as BU defeated the Flames, 13-1, on March 24 in Omaha.
Neither team scored until an RBI double up the middle by Emily Rochford and a sacrifice fly to left field by Lauren Jurek gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
A solo homer to left-center field by Maricela Egan made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth.
The Flames answered in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to left field by Macy Homes to slice the lead to 3-1.
BU responded in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer to center field by Amanda Placzek to expand the Bruin advantage to 5-1.
The Flames gave up four-straight walks to open the seventh inning and the Bruins also scored on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to increase the margin to 8-1.
Jurek improved to 9-5 on the season, allowing five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in seven-complete innings in the circle.
Mickayla Larsen (0-5) suffered the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
The Bruins will travel to LaCrosse, Wis. this Friday-Saturday, April 2-3 for a four-game series at Viterbo University. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 1:00 pm. Saturday's twin bill will commence at noon.
