CLERMONT, Fla. -- Using the international tiebreaker rule, Marian (Ind.) University scored on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out a dramatic 3-2 win over Bellevue University Monday morning at the National Training Center Spring Games.
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 3-7 on the season, while Marian improves to 1-1 overall.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a one-run single to center field by Carly Greene.
Kaitlyn Goney scored on a passed ball in the top of the fifth to knot the score at 1-1.
The Bruins grabbed their first lead on an RBI single to center field by Erin Sharpe that plated Sydney Robertson in the top of the eighth inning.
Marian forced a ninth inning when the Knights scored on a fielding error by BU short stop Emily Gigax.
The Knights won the game in the bottom of the ninth on a bases-loaded single up the middle by Logan Personett.
Kelli Fisher (2-5) suffered the loss, scattering six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 8.2 innings of work.
Bellevue will continue action at the tournament with 2 p.m. game today against Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.
