CLERMONT, Fla. -- With offense at a premium the No. 22 Bellevue University softball team used head's up base running to slip past Purdue University-Calumet, 2-1, in the first of their two non-conference games at Sleepy Hollow Park as part of THE Spring Games.

With the score tied 1-1, Kayla Young (1-3) doubled to left leading off the bottom of the seventh to put a runner in scoring position for the Bruins. Pinch-runner Sydney Robertson came on for Young and advanced to third via a passed ball prior to scoring the game-winning run in the same fashion.

Bellevue has now been victorious in three-straight to improve to 3-5 on the year while the loss drops Purdue-Calumet to 3-4.

BU jumped on the board first, scoring in the opening inning. Alex Tooley led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a ground ball by Erin Sharpe, and came in to score when Young reached on a two-base error.

The score remained that way until the Peregrines were able to tie it up in the fourth. Alex Morales led off with a triple to right-center field and came in to score a batter later on Olivia Sardella's groundout.

Kelli Fisher (2-3, 2.47) went the distance in the circle for the Bruins allowing just one run on three hits without issuing a free pass. She struck out a season-high eight batters in the victory.

Carly Murphy suffered the loss for the Peregrines despite not allowing an earned run (two runs total) in 6.2 innings on one and striking out five.

The Bruins take the field again immediately with a game scheduled against Hannibal-LaGrange University.
