Millward continues award haul; collects NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Bellevue University senior Toby Millward (Kings Lynn, England) has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Men's Soccer National Player of the Week, as announced by the NAIA National Office on Tuesday.

Millward is the first Bruin to ever win NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week recognition and joins Luke Baxter, who was the National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25, 2012, as the only players in program annals to receive the weekly honor.

The attacker continues his exemplary redemption season in 2020. After injury limited Millward to just 12 appearances a year ago, Millward has found his stride just past the midway point of this season. An honorable mention All-American in 2018, with 10 goals and nine assists in 21 games, he has nearly equaled those stats in just 10 games this year. In just the last three games, he has scored five goals and three assists en route to back-to-back A.I.I. Player of the Week awards.

Millward was all over the scoresheet for the Bruins last week, scoring three goals and four assists to lead BU to a pair of wins over Jamestown (6-0) and Mount Marty (4-1).

In Bellevue's win over Jamestown on Wednesday, Millward scored twice and added an assist as the Bruins recorded their largest away shutout against a GPAC school in program history.

He followed up that performance by scoring what proved to be the game-winner and recording three assists in Sunday's triumph over Mount Marty.  He twice sent set pieces into the box for headed goals by Andy Wilkinson and sprung Inaki Aldao on a breakaway to provide the final strike.

Millward now has 25 assists for his BU career to move atop the all-time leaderboard and becomes just the second player in program history with as many as 25 of each goals and assists in a career.

On the season, Millward ranks fourth nationally with nine goals and third with eight assists.

Bellevue currently stands at 6-4-0 on the season and hosts Morningside College tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 21) at 8 p.m. from Papillion Landing.
