BU plays to scoreless draw at Midland

FREMONT, Neb. -- AJ Jarvis stopped four shots to help the Bellevue University men's soccer team play to a 0-0 draw with Midland University on Wednesday night at Heedum Field.

Bellevue: 5-6-1
Midland: 4-3-1

The first half saw Bellevue hold a 4-3 advantage in shots while Midland won all three corners in the opening 45 minutes. Each team put two shots on goal.

Warrior keeper Matthew Ricci denied Austyn Brinkley in the third minute and saved Andy Janssen's chance in the 32nd minute.

Diego Konincks and Antonio Hernandez each found the goal frame for Midland but both players saw their shots turned away by Bruin keeper AJ Jarvis.

The second half skewed more towards Midland where shots were concerned as the Warriors racked up a 5-2 advantage but Bellevue took three of the four corners in the period.

Bellevue's Morgan Penn and Midland's Hernandez each had shots saved by the opposing keeper.

Each team totaled just one shot during extra time. Ricky Reyes' 100th minute attempt went wide for BU in the first period while Robert Wiseman saw his shot in the 103rd minute saved by Jarvis in the second.

Jarvis totaled four saves in goal to preserve the Bruins' fifth shutout of the season.

Ricci recorded three stops in net for the Warriors.

"This was our second solid performance in a row and it was good to bring some players back into the team. Juvenal Jacinto did really well on both sides of the ball and Ricky Reyes is getting closer and closer. "

Player of the Match:

Andy Wilkinson -- The Bruin skipper directed the defense to their fourth clean sheet in the last five games.

Bellevue travels to Bartlesville, Okla. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. from the OKWU Soccer Complex.

Notes:

  • The draw snapped a three-game series losing streak for BU at Midland. The Bruins had been 0-3-0 all-time when playing at the Warriors' home venue.
  • Bellevue now stands at 4-1-1 over their last six matches and have conceded in just two of those games.
