ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Andres Blanco's goal right before halftime propelled the Bellevue University men's soccer team past Northwestern College, 1-0, on Wednesday evening at the NWC Soccer Complex.

Bellevue sees their overall record improve to 2-1-1 on the season while Northwestern falls to 2-1-0 following their first defeat of the campaign.

After a scoreless first 44 minutes of the game, it was Bellevue that broke through in the 45th minute. Andres Blanco was the Bruin to find the back of the net for his first goal of the season just 34 seconds prior to the halftime whistle.

In total, BU out-shot Northwestern 9-5 in the opening period and rode the late goal into halftime.

The Bruins out-shot Northwestern 14-8 on the night with eight BU shots finding their way on target against no Red Raider shots finding the mark. Corner kicks were a virtual tie with NWC holding a slight 5-4 edge.

Harry Wray wasn't troubled in goal as he earned the clean sheet, the first of his collegiate career, and improved his mark to 2-1-0.

Matt Scott stopped seven of the eight shots he saw for Northwestern but it wasn't quite enough as he suffered the loss to fall to 2-1-0.

Bellevue next plays on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Atchison, Kan. for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against Benedictine College.
