In the Bellevue University men's soccer match against Hastings College on Sept. 19, the Bruins helped raise $3,000 for the Wounded Warriors Family Support organization.

Wounded Warriors Family Support is an independent non-profit organization that provides support to the families of U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. For more information, visit www.wwfs.org.

"The communities of Bellevue and Hastings share a strong military history, and it's fitting that this game benefited wounded veterans and their families," said Col. John Folsom, founder of Wounded Warriors Family Support. "We want to thank Coach Briggs and the Bellevue University men's soccer program for their support of military families."

All proceeds from the match, which was won by Bellevue, 1-0, were donated to Wounded Warriors Family Support.

"We had a great crowd," said Bruin head coach Matt Briggs. "Everyone got to witness two local teams compete on the pitch, with the two groups of supporters coming together to help raise money for a great charity and cause."

"The result of the match was secondary to the fact we were able to raise $3000 for the charity and hopefully raise some more awareness to organizations such as Wounded Warrior Family Support, who offer much needed help to those who have given up so much for this country's freedom," added Briggs.

The Bruins (4-6-1, 1-0 MCAC) will travel to McPherson, Kan. on Saturday, Oct. 6, for a 2:30 p.m. MCAC match at Central Christian College.
