Bruins finish in 29th at Nationals, Arzate advances

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team finished in 29th place at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships Thursday at the 7,066-yard, par-71 TPC at Deere Run. The 72-hole tournament will conclude on Friday, but only the top 17 teams and top 40 individuals make the cut, advancing to play the final round. 

Fernando Arzate will compete on Friday after shooting a 76 on the day. He is currently in a tie for 39th place in the individual standings at 12-over par. 

Juan Gomez shot the top Bruin round on the day with a 1-over 73, finishing in a tie for 96th at 20-over par for the tournament. 

Bellevue carded a 308 team score on Thursday, finishing with a 932 54-hole total (319-305-308).

The University of British Columbia took over the team lead after firing a 1-under par 283 team score on the day. The Thunderbirds hold a seven-stroke lead over second place Oklahoma City University going into Friday's final round. 

There is a three-way tie in the individual standings between Texas Wesleyan's David Ravetto, Victoria's Lawren Rowe and Oklahoma City's Matthew Cheung. All three are at even-par for the tournament. 

Friday's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. central time.
