Bruins sit in 27th after first round at Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team sits in 27th place after the first day of competition Tuesday at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being played at the 7,066-yard par-71 TPC at Deere Run. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 319, led by Diego Gudino's 5-over par 76. Gudino is currently in a tie for 55th place in the 155-player field. 

William Woods leads the tournament field after shooting an even-par team score of 284. 

There is a four-way tie for first in the individual standings with the top score of 2-under par 69 by Alasdair McDougall and Matt Wells of William Woods, Chase Jones of Dalton State, and Callum McGuigan of Cumberlands.  

Fernando Arzate and Juan Gomez both shot 9-over 80's on the day. Marc Juggins fired an 83 and Nicolas Handal carded an 84 in the opening round. 

The Bruins will tee off at 8:40 a.m. in Wednesday's second round.
