Gomez tops Bruin golfers in eighth place finish at Primm

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Juan Gomez recorded the best score among Bellevue University men's golfers to help the Bruins to an eighth place finish in the Battle at Primm. The tournament was the spring-opener for BU at the Primm Valley Golf Club.

Bellevue broke a 10th place tie after two rounds to climb to spots for an eighth place finish in a strong 18-team field at the prestigious event.

The tournament, which featured 11 teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25 national poll and five others that received votes in that same poll, was won by Wayland Baptist which shot a three-round total of 864 (294-283-287). Bellevue fired a 902 (307-298-297) over three rounds which was six strokes better than the ninth place finisher.

Juan Gomez finished 19th in the individual standings after improving his score by a stroke in each round (75-74-73) for a total score of 154.

Marc Juggins, Nicolas Handal, Diego Gudino, and Fernando Arzate were all within seven strokes of each other, with finishes ranging from 36th to 59th place.

The Bruins return to the links Mar. 27-28 when they venture to Cedar Falls, Iowa for a tournament hosted by Kirkwood Community College at Hunter's Ridge.
