Meier's double-double not enough in loss to Falcons

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Seven different players scored at least seven points for the Bruins' balanced attack but it wasn't enough as the 14th-ranked Bellevue University women's basketball team fell 91-73 to (RV) Friends University at the Freeman Center on Saturday afternoon in the York Tip-Off Classic.

Jordan Murdock led three Falcons in double figures with 28 points while adding nine rebounds and six assists as the Falcons won their second-straight game over a ranked team.

Following an even start to the game which saw Bellevue lead 14-13 with 14:01 to play, Friends out-scored Bellevue 33-12 to lead at the half by a 46-26 margin.

BU couldn't get too much going in the second half and never got closer than 14 points, 87-73, over the course of the final 20 minutes.

Richard Reed and Sequan Walker co-led the Bruins with 14 points apiece. Walker added a team-high five assists.

Josh Meier recorded his second-straight double-double for the Bruins, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Josh Lindsey-Hunter (9), Josiah De La Cerda (8), Austin Moore (7), and Justin Bessard (7) all scored at least seven points apiece.

Vernon Vaughn dropped in 19 points and hauled down nine boards while Zion Fralin chipped in 16 points for Friends.

The Bruins host Dakota Wesleyan University on Monday, Oct. 29 in their home-opener at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
