Hot shooting Pioneers blow past Bruins, 118-90

OLATHE, Kan. -- MidAmerica Nazarene University shot 63 percent from the field and connected on ten 3-pointers to score a 118-90 victory over Bellevue University in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bell Family Arena. 

The Bruins fell to 12-7 on the season with the loss. MNU, ranked No. 13 in NAIA Division I, improved to 9-4 overall.

Mike Cardenas led three Bruins in double figures with 22 points. He finished 8-of-16 from the field and hit 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Carl Robinson registered 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Nicolus Guzman finished with 12 points and four boards. 

Jonas Page led a balanced MNU offense with 22 points, as seven Pioneers finished in double figures. 

After a 3-pointer by Olutola Olushola gave the Bruins a 23-22 lead at the 12:33 mark of the first half, the Pioneers scored eight-straight and closed the period on a 37-19 run to take a 59-42 advantage at the break. 

A jumper in the paint by Guzman brought the Bruins to within 14 at 71-57 at the 15:17 mark, but that was as close as BU would get the remainder of the contest as MNU cruised to the 28-point victory.

The 118 points were the most points the Bruins have given up this season. 

The Bruins will travel to Point Lookout, Mo. next Tuesday-Wednesday Jan. 5-6 to complete in the College of the Ozarks Cam Jam Classic. Bellevue will take on the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) in its first contest at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
