Bruins defeat No. 18 Dakota State, 85-73

MITCHELL, S.D. -- The 19th-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team defeated No. 18 Dakota State University 85-73 Saturday in the Dakota Wesleyan University Fulton State Bank Classic at the Corn Palace.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 4-1 while Dakota State dropped to 3-1.

Given Kalipinde paced BU with 23 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, and a team-high eight rebounds. He also registered six steals and a pair of assists.

Taylor Young posted 22 points, five rebounds and dished out five assists.

Thomas Hammock made four 3-pointers off the bench for 12 points while Russell Droll scored 10.

Trailing by one, 12-11, the Bruins outscored DSU 38-23 to end the first half and take a 14-point lead at half, 49-35. BU shot 50 percent from the field and made four 3-pointers in the period.

Taylor recorded 14 points while Droll scored all 10 of his points in the opening stanza.

DSU used a 17-7 run midway through the second half to pull within five, 68-63, but that's the closest the Trojans got as BU answered back with a 17-10 spurt to end the game and win, 85-73. Kalipinde led BU with 14 second half points.

BU shot 52.5 percent from the field and limited DSU to 48.2 percent shooting. The Bruins also held a 36-30 advantage in rebounds and a 46-22 edge in points in the paint.

The Trojans were led by Adam Hofer's 21 points.

The Bruins will travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday, Nov. 18 for a nonconference match at No. 7 William Penn University.
