Bruins hold on for 85-83 win over Concordia (Mich.)

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Led by Darius Robinson's 34 points, the Bellevue University men's basketball team (3-2) erased a 15-point first half deficit to post an 85-83 win over Concordia (Mich.) University (0-4) Saturday afternoon in the Huntington University Classic at the Cardinal Field House.

Robinson tied a school record with eight 3-pointers made while adding six rebounds and two steals. 

Jamil Goodwin notched his first double-double of the season, recording 16 points, while pulling down 13 rebounds.

Dominique Grant was the third Bruin in double figures, scoring 18 points and dishing out four assists.

Facing a 15-point deficit, 33-18, the Bruins closed the first half on a 28-15 run to trim the Cardinals' lead down to just two, 48-46 at intermission. Robinson sparked the first half comeback with 18 points.

The second half was tightly contested as neither team led by more than eight points. Following a 3-pointer by Robinson that gave BU an 83-75 advantage, CU mounted a comeback, going on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 85-83 with 45 seconds remaining. The Cardinals had a chance to tie or take the lead after Chatavius Turner stole the ball but missed his field goal attempt with nine seconds left in the game as Bellevue squeaked out the 85-83 win.

John Schaffer paced CU with a team-high 28 points.

The Bruins will travel Clinton, Iowa, next Fri.-Sat., Nov. 16-17 for the Ashford Classic.
