Hot-shooting Bruins rout Union, 102-73

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. --  Junior James Parrott scored a game-high 34 points to lead the ninth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team to a 102-73 win over Union College in the Bruins' final game of the McDonald's Cam Jam Classic on the campus of College of the Ozarks. 

Bellevue improved to 12-4 on the season with the win. Union dropped to 3-14 overall. 

Parrott made 13 of his 15 field goal attempts, including four three-pointers, while adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Other Bruins scoring in double-figures included Richard Shepherd (14), Austin Bowen (12) and Jelani Johnson (11). Ousseynou Diop led BU on the glass with 11 rebounds while scoring seven points and recording three blocks.

BU shot 60.9 percent from the field and forced 19 Bulldog turnovers to propel the Bruins to the 29-point win. The 102 points scored is also the Bruins' highest point total of the season.

Parrott, this week's MCAC Player of the Week, scored 21 first-half points as the Bruins grabbed a 43-29 lead at the intermission. Parrott was 8-of-10 from the field in the opening period, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Bellevue shot 55.2 percent, while holding the Bulldogs to 33.3 shooting in the first half. 

After taking a 24-10 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game, Ian Davis converted on two 3-point plays during an 11-point Bulldog run that pulled Union to within three points at 24-21. Nine points from Parrott helped BU close the half on a 19-6 spurt to give the Bruins a 14-point (43-29) halftime margin. 

BU shot 63.9 percent in the second half and led by double-digits the entire half to cruise to the 29-point victory.

Davis led Union with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

The Bruins open the conference portion of the 2011-12 season with a 7 p.m. home contest against York College on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
