Men's basketball holds "Hope for the Hungry" food drive

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team held their annual "Hope for the Hungry" food drive on Friday, Oct. 30 as the Bruins hosted an exhibition scrimmage against an area all-star team.

The team worked in conjunction with the Open Door Mission and the Lydia House to provide food items and money for the hungry and homeless in the Heartland during the holiday season.

According to Bruin head coach Shane Paben, "The food drive was a tremendous success. We are excited about our continuing partnership with the Open Door Mission and the Lydia House. This is our chance to give back to the community."

Paben and the pre-season 12th-ranked Bruins will open the 2009-10 season at the Doane College Classic on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 6-7, in Crete, Neb. Bellevue will take on Morningside at 6 p.m. Friday and Doane at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
