Bruin Esports claim a pair of titles at WEC

WICHITA, Kan. -- The Bellevue University Esports team claimed a pair of titles over the weekend at the Wichita Esports Convention. Both BU's Overwatch and Apex Legends teams returned home victorious.

Overwatch:

In the four-team double-elimination Overwatch Tournament, BU swept through the competition by defeating the Wichita Wolves (semi-pro) in the first round, Saint Louis University in the semifinals, and the Wolves again in the Championship to take home the title.

Bellevue won all three matches by 3-0 scores as the team now stands at 7-1 in competitive matches during the 2019-20 season.

The Bruins jumped on their opposition from the start and did not let up. The team meshed well with one another and rattled off multiple 5- and 8-kill streaks, seemingly toying with their opponents.

Overwatch is next scheduled to compete at the Hebron Esports Convention on Saturday, Feb. 29.

Apex Legends:

In debuting BU's newest Esport – Apex Legends – Bellevue showed great communication and coordination as the claimed victory with 2490 points, more than 1300 ahead of their closest competition.

* Note - Apex is different from other BU sponsored Esports in that teams do not directly compete against one another at a time. All three Bruin competitors are dropped into a map to gather goods, weapons, and health (a la The Hunger Games). Teams play for an hour and are allowed multiple respawns with the team earning the most points being declared the victors. There are two primary ways to score points and they are 1) based on completing actions and 2) completing varying objectives (i.e. head kills).

Apex Legends next match has yet to be announced but will be posted to BUBruins.com once confirmation is received.

League of Legends:

The BU League of Legends team picked up their first victory via an opponent forfeit on Sunday (Feb. 2) to improve to 1-1 during RIOT CLoL Regular Season Action. They next compete on Sunday, Feb. 9 against an opponent yet to be determined.
