BU eSports program announces addition of Hearthstone

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University eSports program, under the direction of head coach Samanga Amarasinghe, in conjunction with the athletic department and Athletic Director Ed Lehotak announced today the creation of a varsity Hearthstone team to begin play immediately.

Hearthstone will join the already existing BU eSports offerings, League of Legends and Overwatch, to give the program three different varsity games.

Both the Overwatch and League of Legends teams have experienced early success. In its debut season in 2017/18 the League of Legends squad reached the RIOT CLoL North Conference Playoffs while Overwatch, currently in its first season of competition, boasts an impressive 11-1 record in Tespa competition.

The Hearthstone team will begin competitive matches on Feb. 25 as it takes part in the Tespa Hearthstone Collegiate Championship. There will be seven regular-season matches before the playoff field is set.

Coach Amarasinghe has named Nick Kujawa team captain for the inaugural season.
