Bruins announce addition of IF/C Davis

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux has announced the signing of Brenton Davis (Raymond, Neb./Maryland) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletics careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Davis turned in a very strong two-year career at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb. before plying his trade at the University of Maryland this past season.

While at Southeast, Davis helped the Storm to a 64-43 record over two seasons, including a 43-15 mark in 2018 that saw SCC come within a game of qualifying for the NJCAA Division II World Series. For his Storm career, he hit .328 with a .949 OPS, 75 RBI, and 31 extra-base hits.

At Maryland in 2020, Davis started a pair of games at catcher helping the Terrapins to a 10-5 record. He homered and scored twice in his season debut, an 8-3 win over Bryant, before the season was cut short.

Coach Monlux on Davis:

"Brenton will be a great addition to the BU baseball family. He is a Nebraska kid that had two very solid years at Southeast CC in Beatrice. He is a very versatile player than can play infield as well as catch. He has pop in his bat and also possesses the ability to steal bases. We are thrilled that he will be in a Bruin uniform next year."

Davis joins earlier signees Dalton Stamper (Lewiston, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley), Nate Smith (Eagle, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC), Matt Johnson (Meridian, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC), Cole Nordin (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), Alexandro Celiceo (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern), Cade Sakamoto (Bakersfield, Calif./College of the Sequoias), and Nic Metcalf (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Morningside) in the Bruins' 2020 signing class.

Bellevue posted a 9-11 record in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. The Bruins have qualified for the Avista NAIA World Series twice in the previous four seasons and reached nine-straight NAIA National Tournaments. In the program's storied history, Bellevue has qualified for 22 National Tournaments, made 14 World Series Appearances, and won the 1995 NAIA National Championship.
