Metcalf to transfer from Morningside to BU

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today that graduate transfer Nic Metcalf (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Morningside College) will continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Metcalf spent the past two years at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa after beginning his collegiate career at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash.

While at Big Bend, Metcalf produced a .281/.349/.401 slash line recording 13 extra-base hits and 26 RBI over 60 career games. During his two seasons at Big Bend, he helped the Vikings to a 56-37 (29-28 East Region) record, the 2018 West Super Regional title, and an appearance in the 2018 NWAC World Series.

Metcalf had a breakout season in 2019, his first at Morningside, leading the team with a .365 six home runs to go along with 34 RBI, which was good for third on the club. He helped the Mustangs to a 26-19 record (14-13 GPAC) and an appearance in the GPAC Tournament.

He was again off to a strong start in 2020, hitting .319 with 11 RBI in 22 games before the campaign came to an abrupt halt.

Coach Monlux on Metcalf:

"We are really excited to have Nic join the Bellevue University baseball family for next year. Nic graduated in the spring from Morningside and will be attending BU to work on him Master's Degree. He was a mainstay in the lineup for Morningside the past two seasons. He is a quality left-handed bat the has the ability to drive the ball out of the ballpark. We expect him to come in and compete for at bats for us this next year."

Metcalf joins earlier signees Dalton Stamper (Lewiston, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley), Nate Smith (Eagle, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC), Matt Johnson (Meridian, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC), Cole Nordin (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), Alexandro Celiceo (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern), and Cade Sakamoto (Bakersfield, Calif./College of the Sequoias) in the Bruins' 2020 signing class.

Bellevue posted a 9-11 record in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. The Bruins qualified for the Avista NAIA World Series twice in the previous four seasons and reached nine-straight NAIA National Tournaments. In the program's stories history, Bellevue has qualified for 22 National Tournaments, made 14 World Series Appearances, and won the 1995 NAIA National Championship.
