BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Alexandro Celiceo (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Celiceo comes to Bellevue from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif. where he was a two-year member of the Jaguar baseball team, playing for Coach Jay Martel.

In his time at SCC, he appeared in 23 games and made seven starts, pitching to a 2-0 record with a pair of saves and 2.66 ERA. In 81.1 innings of work, he registered 52 strikeouts and issued just 20 walks.

During the 2020 season, he appeared in 10 games with two starts, totaling 31 innings of work. He had increased his strikeout rate from 5.5 to 6.1 and lowered his ERA from 2.86 as a freshman to 2.32 as a sophomore.

Coach Monlux on Celiceo:

"We are happy to announce the signing of Alexandro Celiceo to the BU baseball family. Alex was a mainstay on the pitching staff for Southwestern the last two years. He both started and came out of the bullpen for the Jaguars. He is a very steady, consistent pitcher that really fills up the zone. He is also a very good student. We are excited to be getting him on campus this coming fall. He will have three years of eligibility as well. We expect to see great things from Alexandro in the coming years."

Celiceo joins earlier signees Dalton Stamper (Lewiston, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley), Nate Smith (Eagle, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC), Matt Johnson (Meridian, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC) and Cole Nordin (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS) in the Bruins' 2020 signing class.

Bellevue posted a 9-11 record in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. The Bruins qualified for the Avista NAIA World Series twice in the previous four seasons and reached nine-straight NAIA National Tournaments. In the program's stories history, Bellevue has qualified for 22 National Tournaments, made 14 World Series Appearances, and won the 1995 NAIA National Championship.
