Third-straight sweep keeps BU unbeaten in conference play

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- For the third-straight day, the Bellevue University volleyball team recorded a sweep over a conference foe as the Bruins bested Valley City State University 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-8) on Sunday afternoon at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue continued their strong offensive play and were unyielding defensively in picking up their third-straight conference sweep.

The Bruins hit .343 as a team, committing just six attack errors on 99 attempts, while limiting the visiting Vikings to just a .009 attack percentage.

Andrea Carson once again let the Bruin attack, finishing with a match-best 11 kills on a scorching .526 hitting effort.

Olivia Galas netted her second double-double of the year with 30 assists and 11 digs.

Anna Koehler paced the BU defense with 16 digs as Bellevue out-dug Valley City, 58-52 on the day.

Eve Fountain narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with eight kills and nine digs, while Sierra Athen turned in her best attacking match of the season as she hit .300 with seven kills.

Katie Juarez paced the Valley City attack with nine kills and, defensively, added nine digs. Kallene Klever (15) and Morganne Eppard (12) each finished with double figure dig performances for the Vikings.

Set No. 1:

Valley City kept things close in the early going, as the Bellevue lead hovered between 1-4 points before the Bruins took control with a 6-1 run to go ahead 16-8. After a pair of VCSU points, Bellevue rattled off three-straight on kills from Sierra Athen and Andrea Carson as well as a VCSU attack error to give BU their largest lead of the set, 19-10.

The Vikings closed to within six on a couple of occasions but a kill from Eve Fountain closed out the set and a 25-17 BU victory. Bellevue out-hit VCSU .295-.043 in the set.

Set No. 2:

Bellevue started hot, scoring the first six points, and never looked back as the Bruins built a commanding two sets to none lead.

Leading 17-9, BU ran off a 7-2 run to move to set point. After a Katie Juarez kill, Carson closed the door for Bellevue with a kill of her own.

The Bruins held a .379-.028 advantage in hitting for the set.

Set No. 3:

BU continued their hot-hitting ways in the third set, attacking at .385 clip as a team and limited the Vikings to -.065 in the stanza.

The Bruins again raced out to a fast start, pulling ahead 5-1 on a Viking error and 11-3 on an Olivia Galas kill. Following a kill from Fountain that put the Bruins ahead by 10, VCSU never closed to within single digits. BU engineered a 10-2 run to close the match and remain perfect at home.
