SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The No. 23-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team ended their 2019 season on a high note, defeating Indiana University Kokomo 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-13) to wrap up Pool Play for both teams in Pool E at the NAIA National Tournament at the Tyson Events Center.

Bellevue and IU Kokomo were tied 8-8 through the first 16 points in the opening set before the Bruins went on a 10-2 scoring run to grab control with an 18-10 lead as they secured a comfortable 25-14 victory to open the match.

The second set followed a similar script, with BU clinging to an 8-7 lead before a 13-4 spurt put Bellevue ahead 23-11. After trading the final four points, BU emerged victorious, 25-13, and firmly in control of the match up two sets to none.

BU got off to a quick 7-3 lead in the third set before the Cougars fought back to tighten the score at 8-6. This time, a 10-2 Bruin run gave Bellevue an 18-8 lead as they held on for a 25-15 set victory to claim the match sweep.

Sierra Athen totaled a match-high 11 kills on .346 hitting, Andrea Carson tallied nine kills and hit .231, and Coree Lipovsky led all players hitting .429 with seven kills.

Olivia Galas directed the Bruins to a .267 hitting percentage with 28 kills and 13 digs for her 19th double-double of the season.

Athen led Bellevue with 19 digs as she notched her 23rd double-double of the campaign. Paige Holdsworth and Madi Evans also finished with double-digit digs checking in with 13 and 12, respectively.

McKenna Lundy finished with six kills on .211 hitting for IU Kokomo as the Cougars struggled offensively, hitting just .024 as a team. Kendal Williams finished one dig short of a double-double as she totaled 16 assists on the day.

Macee Rudy led the defensive efforts with 18 digs.

With no seniors and just one junior, Bellevue's entire roster is eligible to return next season where the Bruins will likely open the year inside the NAIA Top 25.
