Hot-hitting Bruins sweep Waldorf to open NSAA Tournament

MADISON, S.D. -- Led by Sierra Athen and Nicole Meyer, the Bellevue University volleyball team hit .440 on the day as the Bruins swept Waldorf University 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in the opening round of the North Star Athletic Association Tournament Friday morning at the Watertown Civic Arena. 

The No. 3-seeded Bruins (26-7) will battle No. 2 Dakota State (18-11) at 5 p.m. today. Waldorf ended its season at 12-19. 

Athen registered 11 kills, seven digs and a service ace in the victory. Meyer pounded eight kills on 10 errorless swings. Rosa Reed-Bouley hit 500 on the day with eight kills while adding a pair of blocks. 

Olivia Galas notched her 14th double-double of the season, finishing with 34 assists and 10 digs. She also added six kills and hit .750 in the win while adding a block. 

Defensively, the Bruins were paced by Madi Evans' 13 digs and two service aces. 

The Warriors were led by Savanna Cordle who pocketed eight kills with no errors on 20 swings. Kyra Platzek and Ariel Pindegayosh both recorded six kills. Platzek, who leads the NSAA in service aces, finished with three on the day.
