BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Despite a season-high 23 kills from Andrea Carson, the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five-setter to (RV) Dakota State University, falling 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 13-25, 15-11 Tuesday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

The Bruins fell to 17-5 overall and 5-2 in the NSAA with the loss. DSU improved to 12-7 on the season and 6-1 in league play. 

Carson finished with 23 kills on .286 hitting while fellow outside Sierra Athen recorded her team-leading 12th double-double of the season, finishing with 15 kills and 14 digs along with a pair of blocks. Payton Fehringer collected nine kills, six digs and three blocks in the loss. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .215 hitting percentage, dishing out 54 assists along with nine digs and two blocks. 

Defensively, BU was led by Madi Evans who provided 15 digs. 

Led by Hanna Jellema, the Trojans had four players finish in double figures in kills. Jellema pounded 20 kills on .441 hitting. Fellow rightside Kelsey Pearson hit .500, finishing with 13 kills. Barbara Briceno registered a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs. Samantha Zell pocketed 10 kills while adding a match-high six blocks. 

DSU hit .272 on the night while holding an 84-68 advantage in total digs and a 9-8 margin in team blocks.  

The Bruins will head to Des Moines, Iowa this Friday, Oct. 11, to participate in the Grand View University Tournament. BU will take on No. 16-ranked Montana Tech at noon and John Brown at 5 p.m.
