BU drops 5-setter to Comets to open NSAA play

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Despite a triple-double from Olivia Galas, the 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball suffered a 3-2 (19-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13) loss at Mayville State University Friday night to open up North Star Athletic Association play at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. 

The loss dropped the Bruins to 11-4 on the season and 0-1 in the NSAA. MSU improved to 11-6 overall and 1-0 in league play. 

Galas finished with a career-high 68 assists, to go along with 10 kills and 10 digs to record her first career triple-double. 

Bellevue held an 83-45 advantage in total kills in the match, but the Bruins were plagued by 49 hitting errors and nine service mistakes. Contrastly, the Comets committed just 19 attacking errors and one error from the service line. 

Sierra Athen collected her team-leading ninth double-double of the season, finishing with a season-high 23 kills, to go along with 18 digs. Andrea Carson added 16 kills, six digs, and a pair of blocks in the loss. 

Payton Fehringer recorded a career-high 15 kills in her first career start while adding three digs and a pair of blocks.  

Sidney Craig anchored the BU defense with a career-high 29 digs. She also added a service ace. 

The Comets were led by Victoria Johnson's 13 kills and match-high nine blocks as MSU held a commanding 19-8 advantage in total team blocks. Hannah Bliss finished with 12 kills, four digs, and four blocks for MSU.  

The Bruins will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Presentation College.
