Outsides power Bruins past Doane, 3-1

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Outside hitters Andrea Carson and Sierra Athen combined for 37 kills to lead the 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20) victory over (RV) Doane University Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 11-3 on the season. DU fell to 10-6 overall. 

Carson pounded a season-high 21 kills and added eight digs. Athen logged her team-leading eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 16 kills and 14 digs. 

Olivia Galas dished out 51 assists while adding 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. She also added four blocks and a service ace. 

Sidney Craig tied Galas with a match-high 15 digs. 

The Bruin defense held the Tigers to a .079 hitting percentage, out-digging DU, 68-64. Doane held an 11-7 advantage in team blocks. 

Madison VanHousen and Genna Ryan-Piasecki led the Tiger offense with nine kills apiece. 

Kennedy Scheele posted a match-high 17 digs for DU.  

The Bruins will open up conference play on Friday night, Sept. 20 when they travel to Mayville, N.D. for a 7 p.m. contest at Mayville State University.
