Hot-hitting Bruins breeze past Lourdes, 3-0

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The 22nd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team hit a sizzling .438 as the Bruins cruised past Lourdes University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-13) Thursday night in the opening day of action of the 25-team GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic being held at the Lied Activity Center. 

Sophomore outside hitter Sierra Athen led BU with 12 kills on 20 errorless swings while adding a match-high 18 digs and three service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Coree Lipovsky added 11 kills on .500 hitting while adding a pair of digs and a block. 

Junior outside hitter Andrea Carson hit .438 with nine kills and two digs. 

Sophomore setter Olivia Galas dished out 31 assists while collecting four kills, three digs, and a service ace. 

The Bruins committed just six hitting errors in the match while holding a commanding 53-38 advantage in digs

Kylee McBride paced Lourdes with seven kills and six digs. The Gray Wolves were led defensively by Alli Plasencio's 11 digs.  

The Bruins (6-2) will continue action in the tournament on Friday night with a 5 p.m. match against No. 23-ranked Westmont College at the Lied Activity Center.
