No. 10 Eastern Oregon downs BU in four sets

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Tenth-ranked Eastern Oregon University handed the Bellevue University volleyball team a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20) loss to complete play in the Bill Marshall Classic Saturday morning in the Lynn Farrell Arena on the Hastings College campus. 

The Bruins fell to 5-2 on the season with the loss. EOU improved to 6-0 overall. 

Bellevue's 25-22 win the first set was only the second time this season the Mountaineers have lost a set. 

Andrea Carson led the Bruins with 12 kills, eight digs, and a pair of blocks. Sierra Athen and Coree Lipovsky both chipped in with nine kills apiece. Lipovsky added a team-high four blocks in the loss. 

Sophomore setter Olivia Galas recorded a double-double with 42 assists and 14 digs while adding six kills and four blocks. 

Madi Evans anchored the BU defense with a season-high 25 digs. 

Hailee Ackerman led EOU with nine kills, six digs, and three service aces. Megan Bunn and Breanna Shaffer added eight kills each. 

The Bruins out-dug the Mountaineers, 85-78, but EOU held a 13-9 edge in total blocks. 

Although BU pounded 11 more kills than EOU, the Bruins were plagued with 37 hitting errors, compared to 22 for the Mountaineers.  

The Bruins will host the 26-team GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic next Thursday-Saturday, Aug. 29-31 at the Lied Activity Center in Bellevue.
