Trolls end Bruins' season, 3-0 at NAIA Opening Round

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Trinity Christian College hit .333 and committed just four hitting errors in the final two sets as the Trolls swept Bellevue University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-16) Saturday night at the DeVos Athletics Center in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Opening Round. 

The Bruins ended their season with a 23-12 overall record. TCC improved to 29-9 on the season. They will await the NAIA Final Site Pool Play (Nov. 27-29) announcement and pairings which will be determined on Sunday, Nov. 18 and released by 5 p.m. 

Shayla Scanlan and Rosa Reed-Bouley led the BU offense with 12 kills apiece. Madi Evans paced the Bruin defense with 19 digs. 

Olivia Galas directed the Bruins to a .167 hitting percentage, dishing out 33 assists while adding three digs and three kills. 

Bouley hit .524 in the loss with just one hitting error in 21 attempts. 

Kacie Stoll led the Trolls with 16 kills on .469 hitting while adding six blocks and four digs. Sarah Swan hit .381 with 10 kills. 

Dani VanLaten recorded a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs. 

Brianna Figueroa led all players with 26 digs and TCC held a 9-2 advantage in blocks. 

The Bruins squandered a five-point lead in the second set, leading 13-8, before the Trolls battled back, committing just one hitting error in the set, hitting .400 while pulling out the 25-21 victory. 

BU trailed the entire third set as TCC compiled six blocks and hit .293 to close out the match with the 25-16 victory.
