ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Head coach Trish Siedlik picked up her 500th career win as the Bellevue University volleyball team swept Presentation College 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-16) Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association volleyball action at the Strode Center.
Siedlik, who is in her 13th season at Bellevue and her 17th season overall, has now amassed an impressive career record of 500-171 (.745) in her collegiate coaching career. She is 376-150 at Bellevue.
The Bruins improved to 18-8 on the season and remained in second place in the league standings with an 8-2 record in the NSAA. Presentation fell to 10-15 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Shayla Scanlan led the Bruins with a season-high 19 kills on a sizzling .563 hitting percentage. Sierra Athen added 13 kills and a pair of digs as BU outhit the Saints .219 to .094.
Freshman setter Olivia Galas picked up her team-leading 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 39 assists and 14 digs, to go along with five kills.
The Bruin defense was anchored by Madi Evans who produced 23 digs and a service ace.
The Saints were paced by Evy Peterson (12) and Olivia Stet (8) who combined for 20 kills. Defensively, PC was led by Joely Roe's match-high 25 digs.
The Bruins trailed the majority of the first set before using a kill by Scanlan to knot the set at 20-20. An attack error by Amber Cline gave BU its first set point at 24-23 before Stet blasted a kill to the corner to tie it at 24-all. Consecutive kills by Scanlan ended the first set at 26-24. Scanlan finished the opening frame with nine kills.
The second set featured four ties and five lead changes before the Bruins used a 7-3 run to close the set, pulling away for the 25-20 victory.
BU never trailed in the third set and held the Saints to a -.061 hitting percentage, to cruise to the 25-16 win, completing the sweep.
The Bruins will host No. 25-ranked Ottawa University on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
