VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- The 22nd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to record a 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-6) victory at Valley City State University in North Star Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon in Graichen Gymnasium. The balanced Bruin offense had four players record double-figure kill totals in the victory.
Bellevue remained undefeated in conference play, improving to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in the NSAA. VCSU fell to 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
Andrea Carson had a match-high 14 kills and added eight digs in the win. Rosa Reed-Bouley registered 12 kills on .333 hitting while adding four blocks. Sierra Athen recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 kills and a team-high 19 digs. Shayla Scanlan was the fourth Bruin in double figures, collecting 11 kills to go along with four blocks.
Olivia Galas garnered her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 47 assists and 14 digs, along with seven kills, two blocks, and two service aces.
The Vikings were led by Clarissa Olson, who nabbed 14 kills on .357 hitting while adding a match-high 11 blocks. Defensively, VCSU was led by Charlotte Huschka's 22 digs and two service aces.
After dropping the opening two sets, hitting just .053 and .114 in sets one and two, respectively, the Bruins rebounded in set three by hitting .412 with 17 kills and just three errors in 34 attempts. After trailing 8-5 in the fourth set, BU used a four-point run to take the lead and never trailed the remainder of the match.
The Bruins hit a sizzling .556 in the decisive fifth set with 10 kills on 18 errorless swings to record the decisive 15-6 victory, completing the comeback.
Bellevue returns home on Friday, Sept. 28 for a 7 p.m. NSAA contest against Mayville State University.
