Saints upset No. 19 Bruins in five sets

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Despite leading in nearly every statistical category, the 19th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team fell to Presentation College in five sets (25-27, 25-19, 25-13, 27-29, 11-15) in North Star Athletic Association action Friday night in the Strode Center. For the second-straight match, the Bruins squandered a match point in the fourth set, before falling in five. 

With the loss, BU fell to 20-6 on the season and 6-2 in the NSAA. The Saints improved to 15-8 and 4-5 in league play. 

Mikaylah Gillespie recorded her first career double-double, finishing with 17 kills on .424 hitting while adding a match-high 10 blocks. Maddie Squiers collected her second career triple-double, notching 51 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills on .421 hitting as BU registered a 67-51 advantage in total kills. Hope Lambrecht and Shayla Scanlan both added 10 kills in the loss. 

Taylor Holz led five Bruins in double figures with a match-high 25 digs as BU held a 91-75 edge in total digs.

Kayla Wolfe led the Saints with 15 kills, five digs and four blocks. Defensively, PC was paced by Abigal Wahl and Joely Roe, who both recorded 19 digs. 

The Bruins will travel to Madison, S.D. tomorrow (Oct. 14) for a 1 p.m. conference showdown at Dakota State University.
