LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The 19th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 5-setter (24-26, 25-20, 25-13, 26-28, 10-15) Saturday morning in the Bruins' final match of the Warner Royals Classic at the Turner Athletic Center.
With the loss, BU fell to 20-5 on the season. WIU, which received votes in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, improved to 14-4 overall.
Shayla Scanlan led three Bruins in double figures, finishing with 20 kills, five blocks and five digs. Rachel Wald registered 15 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks. Hope Lambrecht collected 11 kills, two digs and two blocks in the loss.
Defensively, Taylor Holz notched a season-high 22 digs.
Maddie Squiers directed the BU offense to a .158 hitting percentage while registering her team-leading 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 54 assists and 16 digs, while adding five kills and two blocks.
Brittany Taksas and Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu both recorded 15 kills to pace the Warrior offense. Michelle Calderon led all players with a match-high 41 digs.
The Bruins return to conference action next Friday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Presentation College beginning at 7 p.m.
